Artist Statement

As a New Jersey-based visual artist, I create figurative abstract oil paintings with oil pastel that investigate the tension between the fluid human spirit and the confined, transactional structures that seek to contain it. My work reconfigures the human form through a synthesis of geometric patterns and anatomical deconstruction. This contrast creates a juxtaposition of rigidity and vulnerability within a piece's subject(s).

In my compositions, the body is treated as a site of fragmentation. A torso might be deconstructed into a series of triangles, while a limb is defined by the rhythmic spacing of small circles. Within these shape-based confines, I reveal the visceral interior: the silhouette of a head may be composed of a complex web of vascular-structured lines, and pieces of the spinal column are often found floating within the torso’s geometric architecture.

By employing erratic, unrefined line work and deep color gradients, I prioritize the raw transmission of an idea over anatomical accuracy. Additionally influenced by the Vanguardia movement and the isolating nature of void-like spaces, my paintings seek to capture the psychological weight of lived experiences. I portray the figure not as it appears to the eye, but as an abstraction with an unsettling and vehement energy.
